Speedy-Feet/Wheelie-Fun TriathlonTo all my rowdy tri and du friends, On a whim and because I need some brick training, I wandered over to CC tonight for the first Wheelie Fun Speedy Feet Triathlon. It was very low key, very friendly/social, and I thought very successful. I'm inviting all of you to join me for the rest of the planned dates: July 1st, 15th and 29th. All Weds nights. Registration is at the farthest shelter from the entrance which was nice because we had it to ourselves. You fill out a waiver, show your USAT card if you have one, if not, you buy the one day like any other tri event, you get a bib, you pay your 10.00, and they write your bib number on the back of your right hand. Transition is in grass next to the shelter, trans in and out is on the sidewalk. Plenty of racks and room for all. Pre-race instructions at 5:45, du starts at 5:55, first swimmer in the water at 6:00. We entered the water in bib number order, one person every couple of seconds, very nice. We did one counter clockwise loop around the buoys that are always there. You start kind of in the middle and then turn around at buoys 1 and 10 on the ends. Exit is back where you started. Up the sidewalk to the bikes. Bike course tonight was the old slightly modified 20 mile loop that HFP used to use before they started crossing Rt 73. It is all right turns and while there were no marshals, Bob Duncan got us safely out of the park and onto 73 and then he got us safely back onto the shoulder of 73 for the finish. There was also a support vehicle following the last riders should anyone have needed help. Bike was self supported so bring bottles. Bike Course The run was two loops beginning on the usual gravel path to the abandoned road, and then a left turn onto the park road that we usually cross on our way out to the levee. Follow that road back to the main park road and back down to the beach area parking. Water available at the start of the run and then as you start your second loop. The surrounding trees kept it just shaded enough to keep it from being a cooker. Run Course I haven't seen results yet but I think it's just going to be final times, they recorded when we went in the water and when we finished. It wasn't chip timed so if you want to know splits, wear your favorite watch. Again, it was very relaxed, very very low key and just a good fun way to get some training mileys in on a Weds night. I really would like to see this series do well and they keep it for future years, so if you can come out, please do. Thank you and hope to see you soon!!!!! Kathy Robbins |
